News and Developments

Automatic backups dropped for free accounts.

  1. 17th September 2008 Due to the extreme popularity of myVersionControl we have made the business decision to focus our automatic backup technology on paid accounts. From week beginning 22nd September 2008 we will no longer make automatic nightly backups of free accounts. All paid accounts will operate without interuption. All users may make live backups of their code at any time.

Invoices available for download.

  1. 30th June 2008 We have added functionality to enable users to download all their invoices direct from their control panel. These will shortly include a VAT number for UK based companies to reclaim the VAT component of their subscription.

Manually created backups now deletable.

  1. 10th April 2008 myVersionControl firmly believes that code entrusted with us should be available at all times to the owners. We have always had a facility for our customers to create real time backups of their code and download them in standard dump format for maximum portability. We have now added a clear feature so that you may save the space.
Shortly we will be adding some very exciting features to the download functionality giving customers maximum security and peace of mind.

Uptime statistics now updated daily.

  1. 8th April 2008 Uptime statistics have been modified to report daily rather than weekly in order to give a more accurate and timely view of the level of service.

Animated tutorials now available.

  1. 26th November 2007 Around 20% of people who sign up on myVersionControl never activate their account. There are several possible reasons for this, but in the main, spam catchers and a less than clear 'getting started' guide are to blame. In order to increase the number of users successfully signing up and actively using their accounts, we have made two changes to the website. The first is to get rid of the requirement to authenticate your email address. We've mulled over the security implications of these and we're happy that they are negligible. If for any reason, we are proved wrong, we can switch it back on instantly. Secondly, we have begun a radical overhaul of the support section. We are now including animated tutorials and walk through's in the getting started section of myVersionControl in the hope that the time it takes new users to get up to speed with the service will be greatly reduced.

Oh, and before you go, our developers are itching to try out their Ajax skills on the control panel, so you can expect some exciting new developments there soon too!

We will be implementing a short grace period before requesting payments though out of thanks to our loyal customers.

  3. Finally - thank you for your patience, understanding and help in creating the best subversion host in the world!

Server Upgrade Complete.

  1. 12th October 2006 We are pleased to announce that the scheduled server upgrade has been completed. The most obvious change for the user is the installation of subversion 1.4.0 which provides an array of enhancements and benefits including, most notably, "huge working-copy performance improvements". To benefit from these changes you will need to upgrade your client however your current one will still work.
  2. myVersionControl continually seek to provide our customers with the best tools available with the minimum of fuss. We are proud to (probably) be the only version control service to be offering subversion version 1.4.0

A knowledgebase has now been added and continues to grow.

  1. 28th September 2006 A piece of functionality that myVersionControl has been sorely missing is a rich knowledge base to fully explain the many features we provide our subscribers with.
  2. Rather than re-invent the wheel, we decided to acquire an 'off the shelf' system and integrate it into our framework. After reviewing many of the systems on offer out there, we chose Interspire's ActiveKB for its flexibility, features and the fair licensing agreement.
  3. The Knowledge Base can now be accessed by clicking on the link above in the navigation bar, and is available throughout the control panel both as knowledge base and as context sensitive help.

A free starter account service has been added to our product offering.

We are proud to be able to offer to everyone a free and fully featured subversion hosting account
  1. 26th September 2006 As I was walking to the office last week, I heard a voice behind me mention Subversion. My ears instantly tuned in to what turned out to be a couple of college students talking about how they should version control the development projects they were currently working on. Not being the type of guy to miss an opportunity, I introduced myself and told them about myVersionControl.com.
  2. To cut a long story short, I told them I would discuss with Martin the concept of offering a myVersionControl hosting account free to all students. The thought was that most students would go on to work in commercial development and ultimately purchase a full subscription.
  3. The outcome of all of this is that we are proud to be able to offer to everyone a free and fully featured subversion hosting account. All the features of the pay accounts are available, the only caveat being that you are restricted to a total file size of 4mb.
  4. To all the students at Abertay University - Hope you're enjoying the service, oh and go easy on the beers!

Free live backups now available for your projects

  1. 22nd September 2006 Martin has been working hard over the last week to implement a new service which will allow you to backup and download your repositories. We had initially intended to offer this as a value added - pay service, but after a weekend meeting, we decided that backups should be a part of the whole service our customers subscribe to. Create and download backups in your control panel at "Tools and Apps"=>Backups.
